MUNTAN DREAM

by ANDREA AQUILANTI

Andrea Aquilanti’s talk for the 6th Biennial Edition of Environmental Art reflects on the relationship between reality and its representation, time and memory.

A site-specific project in an ancient oil mill in Maranola in which the artist retraces the steps of history by working through processes of reconstruction and perception in which images constantly undergo deconstructive transitions to the point of splitting and fading, creating continuous interactions with the audience.

Imprinted on the walls are images of the people themselves looking at the mill, the stone wheel standing still, the ancient mechanism now stuck. Once spinning for oil and flour, now repository of elements for living nativity scenes, anchored in the present of an even more ancient time, as in dreams.
