III Edition | Alla Riversa
August 22-23-24 , 2014

“AT THE RIVERSA” is the theme of the THIRD EDITION of the Festival, which was born after a brief period of reflection in which the association Seminaria decided to biennalize this important event, with a view to developing a new form of ideation and participation, between curators, artists and inhabitants.
The artistic direction of Marianna Fazzi and Isabella Indolfi, was supported by curator Fabrizio Pizzuto, a critical and historical look aimed at broadening the horizons of a growing project.
The Festival Seminaria 2014 gravitated to inverted perspectives and the gap in meaning they generate; in fact, “Alla riversa,” which in Maranolese means “upside down,” starts from the physical inversion of the exhibition route that presumes and consents to the reversal of reality itself: looking down to see the sky and up to see the earth; upsetting habits that easily become rules, and playing seriously by drawing from creative disorder. An invitation to artists to subvert spatial, physical and relational rules.
A practice as elementary as walking constitutes meanings and puts into variation, with its creativity, the city’s grammar. Those that the artists selected for the third edition of the Festival are invited to draw are lines and boundaries that have to do with the Maranolese fabric, but also with the lived dimension of the journey, reflections born from a subjective displacement that points forward, open to a thousand possible directions starting with the body, which in movement is embodied and drawn.
These are artists who are concerned and concerned with the territory of Maranola. At the same time an idea of recovering the values of time and those of context, art that recontextualizes the territory by providing for involvement and invasion: reconceiving a place in order to relocate it, rethink it, involve it and re-discuss it. Seminaria rethinks Maranola and invites artists to dialogue with the medieval village and local people through a series of mini-residencies held before the festival.
The initiative, sponsored by the Municipality of Formia, is made possible with the contribution of Michele Gradone’s UnipolSai and also sees the direct involvement of other associations, such as the Salamandrina network.
