Being is a book written and drawn between Maranola, during a long residency in 2020, and Aarhus, Denmark, the artist’s home town. People, landscapes and moments of daily life intertwine and are minutely described by the pencil sketches and written words. For #seminaria2021, Being becomes a space for reading, pausing, reflection and contemplation. In an old cellar that was once a busy haberdashery within the village, Ellen Wolf has recreated an intimate setting, embroidered with small details. Words running on the walls, drawings on the shelves, small stories told lightly, like those told over coffee. And it is precisely coffee that becomes the thread of a reflection on the utility of the useless, because perhaps idleness is just another way of inhabiting time and the world. Being is an invitation to observe everyday life, to recover simple affections and the consciousness of their transience. The love felt soon turns into memory, the image disappears, the work of art attempts the impossible task of retaining life.
