PINOCCHIO

The associations “l’altro sguardo – Circolo Fotografico” and Seminaria Sogninterra present the Pinocchio project dedicated to the industrious creativity of artist Franco Viola . The project, which will be presented to the public next August 19 at 7 p.m. as a preview of the Festival will be set up within the historic center of Maranola, will be developed as a photographic walk of rediscovery of the adventures of Pinocchio.
The puppet-child born from the imagination of Carlo Collodi, symbolically expresses the stage of transition between naivety and consciousness that no individual would ever want to cross and for that very reason has become an expression of universal psychological implications. Artist Franco Viola, “Geppetto emeritus of Maranola,” has created a large series of wooden sculptures of the world’s most famous puppet over the course of his life, giving new life to this multiplicity of facets of the character. The rich collection he created has become the subject of a joint project of the photographic-cultural circle “l’altro sguardo” of Formia, the environmental art festival “SEMINARIA sogninterra” of Maranola and APTE (Friends for the First and Third Age), an association of the family members of the artist F. Viola, which protects and promotes his image; the photos, made as posters pasted on the walls of the alleys of Maranola, are the works of the members of the Formian photographic circle.
The work sought to make a further contribution to the interpretation of the puppet-child, with a reinterpretation of master Viola’s sculptures, thanks to which Pinocchio is unveiled and revealed in his eternal suspension between fairy tale and life, between dream and reality.
